Seven years ago while meditating to the Saint
Francis Peace Prayer a thought came – paint the
prayer. I had no idea what form the painting would
take, but I knew one day I would “paint the prayer”.
Finally in November 2005 I was able to embark on the
journey of combining my love of painting with my
deep desire to connect with others to live a
spiritually healed life.
My current work pushes the idea of promise and hope
to the foreground with subtle text, linking the
natural and spiritual world with prayer. Prayer and
meditation inspire each piece and entwine to create
a visual metaphor that invites the viewer into a
multi-faceted image. The result is similar to the
ambiguity that can occur in the act of praying or
meditating. The paintings with their torn jagged
edges and the words sometimes barely visible speak
to the realities of trying to live a spiritual life.
Sometimes it’s a whisper, at other times it’s not
even there…but when I refocus my attention I find my
way back again and again, secure in God’s grace. |
